The inshore fishing is good and getting better with catches of redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and sheephead. This is a great time of to get out there and get those inshore slams. There will be lots of good fishing oppurtunities coming up with cooler temps and less people on the water.
The redfish bite has been really good with lots of some drag screaming over the slot fish being caught this past week. The reds are schooled up on the flats, and some smaller schools are working the shellbanks in the creeks of the lower Cape Fear. We are catching.. Inshore speckled trout, flounder, bluefish, red drum, croaker, stingrays & shark.
On the piers flounder, bluefish, Virginia mullet, small croaker & spots, pompano, stingrays & shark.
In the surf catching some flounder, puppy drum, bluefish, pompano, Virginia mullet, small croaker, stingrays, & sharks.
Offshore on the bottom grouper, snapper, grunts, jacks, ringtail, some nice size black bass, & sharks.
On top king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, wahoo, sailfish, dolphin, & barracuda.

Ran a combo trip with fellow Captain Rick Croson with local anglers. The ocean was flat with some swells from the storm off shore. Started in 140 feet and had action quickly. The AJs were hungry the 1st couple drifts and then shutdown. Moved out to 200 feet and had some good action with a few nice fish. Hi Folks,
Yes it is still hot and yes the fish are still biting. A little harder to find and a little picky, but they are there…waiting for your rod to sing. We have had good luck inshore and near shore as well.
Now here’s my report:
Inshore: Flounder are biting in most places including the river, hitting live bait and mostly in the rising tide. Reds are just the opposite…biting on the falling tide mostly and playing a little hide and seek.

Fished the Cape Fear river yesterday catching Virginia mullet just off from Fort Fisher ferry landing,this was my first trip of the season for I have been recovering from surgery on my Achilles tendon.It sure does feel great being back on the water catching fish. Lot’s of fish action right now Spanish mackerel are showing up along our beaches with lots of bluefish hitting plugs.

Man, we have had some great weather here lately! I hope this is the trend for the rest of the summer! Light winds, sunny days; with a little rain here and there. The water temps have really started to go up fast inshore, the ocean is going up but it’s taking its time getting up. Hi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. The water is warming and the weather is getting better. Maybe spring has finally sprung! The ocean water temps are in the mid 50's and it's warmer back in the sound. The Reds that stayed back in the sound are going to be found around the bays with a dark bottom. Just about all the bays behind are holding fish and all it takes is a good sunny day to turn them on. Spinnerbaits, topwaters and jigs will all work! They are hungry and will hit about anything! Fished on the flats boat today with Robbie and Charles. We caught lots of redfish(18) on lures and sight casted to most of them. Robbie started off strong but Charles ended the day with the most fish caught. All of the fish were in the 20 to 24 inch range, just good slot sized fish. We are seeing lots of fish, the Redfish action is only going to get better with the warmer air and water temps. Now is the time to book your spring flats fishing trip. Capt Grady had a good weekend of Fishing. This was a half day trip not far off the beach and this group had a blast. Plenty of sharks and Spanish Mackerel to catch.
