Use A Light Action Rod When Surf Fishing For Flounder

October 6th, 2007 by Gillwetter Press

On the piers people are reporting catches of spots, flounder, Virginia mullet, bluefish, & croaker.
In the surf we are catching Virginia mullet, bluefish, flounder, croaker, & pompano. Inshore we are catching red drum, flounder, croaker, speckled trout, bluefish, & pigfish.

Offshore no report.

Fishing tip of the week: Surf fishing has been very good this past week. Most surf fishermen will fish for flounder & red drum using minnow & cut bait. This can be a little slow at times. After you cast these rigs out set the drag & put them in rod holders. Then take a light action rod with a spot rig & use shrimp for bait. You should see lots of action while waiting for the big one. I went this past week & within 1 hour I caught spots, virginia mullet, pompano & black drum. This is a sure way to put fish on the table & have a lot of fun. Keep fishing & stay safe.
