Waterway, river, & bays some good catches of Virginia mullet, gray trout, black bass, & small croaker. In the Cape Fear towards Wilmington catching some stripped bass. In the surf there has been some nice size Virginia mullet & a few small red & black drum.
Fishing tip of the week: We’ve had some nice temperatures for this time of year which has improved the fishing. Hopefully this weather will stick around & warm the water temperature up some. That will keep the bite going. Keep fishing & stay safe.

Shawn Carty caught this 4.5 lb speckled trout in the yacht basin on artificial bait.
Buddy, Greg, Ben, & Larry caught this nice cooler of gray trout, a few black bass, & Virginia mullet while fishing aboard Affordable Charters.
Tommy & Neil Smith of Mebane, NC caught this nice stringer of trout & Virginia mullet while fishing aboard Affordable Charters. Neil also bagged 2 deer over the holidays. Congratulations!

In the surf still catching puppy drum, a few whiting, black drum, & an occasional speckled trout. Water temperature is down to 53 degrees in the surf which has slowed down the surf fishing dramatically.
In the waterways & bays red drum, black drum, sheepshead, gray trout, lots of small speckled trout, & stripped bass.
Toward the mouth of the Cape Fear still catching Virginia mullet, small croaker, & black bass.
Fishing tip of the week: In the Carolina Beach yacht basin it has been a really good week for small speckled trout. The minimum length for keeping these is 12 inches. Be very careful though as they tend to shrink just a little bit so if exactly 12 inches when caught, throw it back, or risk getting a ticket. Keep fishing & stay safe.
