Affordable Charters Fishing Report 3-29-09

March 29th, 2009 by Gillwetter Press | Comments Off

On the surf & on the piers no report. Inshore there have been a few speckled trout & red drum. At the mouth of the Cape Fear there have been steady bites of Virginia mullet, some small croaker & small black bass. No offshore report

Fishing tip of the week: Surf fishing is a little more technical than most people think. When you get to the beach before you set up you need to look for slews. These are formed by storms & rough water. Slews are like underwater ditches and this is where you want to fish. You will have better luck fishing in a slew than on top of a sand bar. Low tide is the best time to see slews. You can watch the waves break on the sand bars first. In the deeper water they will just roll & the water will look darker. Pick your spot & it will make a difference. Keep fishing & be safe.

Blast from the past: This past fall John & Tommy Smith caught a really nice stringer of Virginia mullet while fishing in the Cape Fear River.

Blast from the past. Something to look forward to for summertime fishing. John, Dale, & Dennis caught this nice stringer of flounder while fishing in the ocean right at the back of the breakers.

Affordable Charters Fishing Report 3-22-09

March 22nd, 2009 by Gillwetter Press | Comments Off

Inshore the fishing has picked up this past week as the water temperature is rapidly on the rise. We are now in the low 50’s. Catching a few small speckled trout, & some scattered drum in the grass at high tide. At the mouth of the river catching quite a few small Virginia mullet. Starting next week we should have some offshore reports. The piers will be opening soon so we’ll also start having some pier reports. If anyone has any blast from the past fishing pictures please email them to me at captaincarty@bellsouth.net. Keep fishing & stay safe.
