Affordable Charters Fishing Report 02-21-10
February 21st, 2010 by Gillwetter PressIn the surf on Masonboro Island there are large pods of red drum. It is possible to catch a few on buck tails or mirror lures. They are very slow to bite. In the river striped bass, speckled trout, catfish, & a few Virginia mullet at the mouth of the river.
The boat house pictured below was built in the late 1800’s to service the few Coast Guard personnel who were manning the Bald Head Island lighthouse at the time. Think of how many hurricanes it has withstood. It still has the same wooden shingles on the roof.

This picture is from 1978 of the old Coast Guard boat house in Bald Head creek. Larry, John, & Debbie Carty were digging some clams to make some spending money.

This is a current picture of the same boat house in Bald Head creek. As you can see it has been taken over by marsh grass as the creek has moved to the south.
