Affordable Charters Fishing Report

Still catching a few stripped bass up around the Brunswick River & downtown in the Cape Fear. Some speckled trout, Virginia mullet, & small croaker being caught in the waterways & river. Catching some nice size red drum in the slews on Masonboro Island in the surf on artificial bait.

Fishing tip of the week: Surf fishing is a little more technical than most people think. When you get to the beach before you set up you need to look for slews. These are formed by storms & rough water. Slews are like underwater ditches and this is where you want to fish. You will have better luck fishing in a slew than on top of a sand bar. Low tide is the best time to see slews. You can watch the waves break on the sand bars first. In the deeper water they will just roll & the water will look darker. Pick your spot & it will make a difference. Keep fishing & be safe.

Blast from the past: Shawn McKee caught some speckled trout & Virgina mullet while fishing aboard Affordable Charters.

Russell Walters of Burlington, NC caught this 4 1/2 pound speckled trout in the yacht basin.

Inshore at the mouth of the Cape Fear & around Southport catching some Virginia mullet & small croaker. In the bays & waterways some red drum, speckled trout & a few croaker. Some nice size red drum are being caught off the sand bars at Carolina Beach Inlet. Still a few strippers being caught around Brunswick River & up around the battleship & the mouth of Smith Creek. The piers will be opening soon so we will start having pier reports.

Fishing tip of the week: For those of you with boats be sure to check your battery connections. Take a small wire brush & clean the terminals & wire connections. I do this every six months. Keep fishing & be safe.
