Affordable Charters Fishing Report 03-1-10

March 1st, 2010 by Gillwetter Press

Still catching a few speckled trout, red drum off Masonboro & a few drum around Bald Head Island. Striped bass & catfish being caught up around Wilmington in the Cape Fear River.

The pictures we posted this week show that catching striped bass in snows cut was pretty common. They ranged from 10 to 30 lbs. Back then we called them Rock Fish. The most used lure back then was a wooden red head with white body called a creek chub or large bucktail. Some old timers would brag about cutting a piece off their white t-shirt & hooking it for a lure & catching large Rock Fish. If anyone has old fishing photos they would like published please email those to captaincarty@bellsouth.net.

Keep fishing & stay safe.
