Affordable Charters Fishing Report

In the surf still catching puppy drum, a few whiting, black drum, & an occasional speckled trout. Water temperature is down to 53 degrees in the surf which has slowed down the surf fishing dramatically.

In the waterways & bays red drum, black drum, sheepshead, gray trout, lots of small speckled trout, & stripped bass.

Toward the mouth of the Cape Fear still catching Virginia mullet, small croaker, & black bass.

Fishing tip of the week: In the Carolina Beach yacht basin it has been a really good week for small speckled trout. The minimum length for keeping these is 12 inches. Be very careful though as they tend to shrink just a little bit so if exactly 12 inches when caught, throw it back, or risk getting a ticket. Keep fishing & stay safe.

Nick & Mary Carty caught a nice stringer of gray trout at Southport while fishing aboard Affordable Charters.

Butch Williams caught black drum, sheepshead at Wrightsville Beach jetty while fishing aboard Affordable Charters.

  

On the piers bluefish, a few Virginia mullet, croaker, & gray trout.

On the surf a few puppy drum, bluefish, speckled trout, & croaker.

Inshore waterways, river, & bays Virginia mullet, small red drum, black bass, striped bass, croaker, & speckled trout.

Offshore no report.

Fishing tip of the week: My favorite way of fishing for striped bass since there are not as many as in past years, I like trolling for them. Depending on the depth of water you’re in determines the type of lure to use. After I locate the fish by trolling I pull up to that same spot & sneak my anchor overboard. A good all around lure is a mirror lure 52m11 (red head with white body). This lure has good all around effect on predator fish. Keep fishing & stay safe.
