Hi folks Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Well what can I say things are pretty slow now. A few Trout and Reds are around and hungry but they are few and far between. The best spot I’ve heard of lately is in the general vicinity of Harbor Village Marina. Now I’m not going to tell you exactly where but I will tell you this, they ain’t in the waterway! The best part of the game is the hunt, Ain’t it!
Offshore I’ve heard of some sporadic bluefin bites going on from Morehead to Ocean Isle including our area. The bottom fishing is in the 30+ range and please be careful if you plan on running that far out. This time of the year the weather can change in a short time and it can get dangerous in a hurry.
On the hunting side Deer season is out and there ain’t any ducks to speak of around. We need some really cold weather now to move some birds in here and I hope the cold temps coming will do the trick before the season goes out. Neoprene chest waders and 70 degree temps really bites. The birds don’t move and the ones that are here have seen it all! Not to mention that the skeeters become overwhelming! Even in January folks they can be deadly!
I had a couple of friends from Virginia come down and go duck hunting with me last week and let me tell you folks one thing, I’m glad they don’t have to hunt to eat cause those boys could hit a bull in the butt! I laughed so hard for three days my sides are still hurting. Leon Phelps and me were glad to have them come and hunt with us cause they are good friends and all but..Duh-huh! I don’t have any pictures for this weeks article because the Legendary Sportsman Wayland Batson was out of town on a previous commitment and couldn’t give my friends a lesson in wingshooting. Well maybe next week? Folks thats about all I can ramble on about for this week so remember to take a kid and be safe. Capt. David
