Hi folks Capt. David with this weeks outdoors report. Not much is happening now with the fishing unless you are going 40+ milesout. The cold weather has pretty much shut down the inshore game as well. Now thats not saying that you can’t get lucky! My sources are telling me that a few Trout are still being caught and a suicidal Red might hit a piece of cut bait. Things are pretty grim looking on the fishing action . Hey guys it’s January so what do you expect. I think old man winter has finally gotten here and we may as well start thinking warm thoughts. It’s a good time to take care of some of your gear from hunting season as well.

It looks like duck season is going to be a bust unless a miracle happens and a blue million birds show up this week. Season ends at sunset on the 27th and we have to wait a long, long, time for it to come again. I’m glad this is a written article cause you folks don’t want to see a grown man all upset. My buddy Wayland and his dad went the other day and didn’t see much of anything so I don’t feel so bad about not going myself. Anyway we can go Quail or Rabbit hunting and Squirrel season is in until the end of last day of the month. Bobcat and common snipe are in season till the end of Febuary too. NO I don’t mean the kind of snipe you take dummies out hunting for at night guys, there is a real bird called the snipe and its kinda like a Woodcock only uglier. The only thing I know about them is they like wet areas around swampy places. Now would be a good time to start getting ready for April. If you can’t figure out why , call me and we’ll go snipe hunting back in Holly Shelter one night real soon. A guided hunt at night by one of the best in the business, the world famous Leon Phelps is an experience that will bring back memories for a life time! He,He,He,He! If you can’t reach Leon just ask any of your neighbors who hunt and I’m sure they will be glad to take you sometime. Heck a good group of flushers and a decent bagman can really rack up this time of the year. It’s getting close to mating season and those things get crazy.

Well thats about it for this week folks, remember to take a kid with you and maybe even a neighbor. Be safe and enjoy the great outdoors. Capt. David
