Hi folks Capt. David with this weeks outdoors report. The fishing is slow but you can still catch a few Trout and Drum in the surf and if you want to go about 30 miles or so out you can catch some nice Black Bass and Grouper. A lot of people I’ve talked to lately say the sound is full of Flounder now and the water is clear. Right now is a good time to go gigging if you are into it and everyone I know who’s been have limited out. Remember that the limit is 8 fish per person.
On the hunting side, Deer season is out as of dark on monday the 1st and it will be September till we can do it again. Remember those places where you hunt that you didn’t want to go into for fear of spooking the deer. Well go ahead and bust some brush and see what was happening in that area. The deer ain’t going to leave the area for long if you jump something now and you might find some good buck sign. Look for rubbed trees and scrapes on the ground and start getting set up for next season.
Duck season is in until the 27th of January and we need some really cold weather up north to push some new birds into the area. The ones that are here are getting a little decoy shy because they have been shot up for a while. Heck those birds have seen every possible decoy spread and mojo duck around here. You can still have some good shooting if you get set up in the right place.
Now I don’t know if any of you made any New Years resolutions or not but if you do, Keep them real! Losing weight, Quitting smoking, exercising, and all that other stuff can be taken care of by just getting out and enjoying nature. Hunter or not, Fisherman or not, everyone loves the sights and sounds of the wild. Get out and explore some of the local treasures we have around here. Maybe you will find your own hidden treasure. My number one resolution is to see what else I can see that I’ve never seen before!
Well thats it for this week and Santa said that nobody took any shots at him this year. Remember to take a kid with you and be safe. Capt. David
