Hi folks Capt. David With this weeks outdoors report. I know this nice weather has given a lot of you the fever. It’s getting to me too. I would really like to tell you where the fish are biting and that they are begging to be caught but then I might compromise my journalistic integirty by telling a bald-faced lie. Heck I’ve got the itch real bad too so take pity and tell me where they are. My wife and I were discussing maybe going to the Florida keys to go fishing for a few days. Something is always biting there!
Folks ain’t nothing that I know of thats changed since last week, some Speckled trout and a few Reds are being caught. The north end of Lea Island usually will produce a Drum or two this time of the year and I’ve heard that the trout are still around the vicinity of the 94 marker and Harbor Village Marina.
Offshore the weather has been too rough in the last few days but I’m sure that when the weather clears there are a few fish out there to be caught. Be careful out there it can get bad in a hurry, check the weather forecast before you go.
This week I would like to tell you folks about Dougs tackle on HWY 50 between Holly Ridge and Surf City. Doug has been there as long as I can remember selling bait and tackle. He’s quite a nice guy and knows the fishing game as good as anyone I know. He carries just about anything you need to fish in this area and does rod and reel repair. His custom built rods are works of art and are built with only the finest components. He is a craftsman of the highest order in my book and you folks need to stop in and check him out sometime. If he is closed you can just about bet he’s fishing or thinking about going fishing.
Now I’ve got a bone to pick with some of our area residents. It’s about your trash! When you take you trash to the site on Hwy 17 and you put 6 bags in the back of the truck and you get there and only 5 bags are in the truck, where is the other bag? It’s laying on Hwy 17 stupid! Every day we drive up and down 17 and we all see the bags of trash laying all in and along the side of the road. The mowers come in the spring and summer and mow the trash. Wow what a sight to see! It makes me so proud to live in this area when I see Bubba driving down the road with trash blowing out the back of his pickup. Secure your trash when you haul it! I went to Charleston the other day and the dirtiest section of 17 was in our area folks. what does that say about us to folks driving through. By the way I wonder what kind of personal information could be found in some of those bags? Can you say IDENTITY THEFT folks! Please pick up and secure your trash and pick some up once in a while.
Well thats about all I’ve got for this week folks, so be safe and take a kid with you. Capt. David
