Hi folks Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. The water is warming up and the fish are starting to bite. I’m hearing of some nice Redfish and Trout being caught back in the sound and in the surf . The Mullet are showing up in the surf as well. The north end of Lea Island is giving up some nice Drum and it shouldn’t be long before the Bonita are here. All the water has to do is get to 60 degree’s for them to show up on the artificial reefs just offshore. The brave-hearted are doing good on Yellowfin around the Big Rock and the other usual hotspots. Sorry I can’t give up those numbers but you folks understand that I’m sworn to secrecy by the guys telling me this stuff. They keep telling me that the water is deep and cold out there so I had better keep it to myself! Those offshore guys are as protective of a hot bite as a momma bear is of her cubs and I don’t want to aggravate those good old boys or they wont tell me nothing. Well it’s getting that time of the year and everything is going to be biting before you know it so whatever your favorite fish is, get your stuff ready cause it’s fixin to bust loose. I get all giddy feeling when I think about it, don’t you?

Turkey season is just around the corner and I hope you have been practicing your calling and have your shotgun sighted in. You do,don’t you . Well if you miss that longbeard, there is no one to blame but yourself. Remember that it is bearded turkeys only and some hens will have a beard too. I’ve seen more than one or two in my days. Also other folks may be doing the same thing so be sure of what you are shooting at before you pull the trigger. If you need some help in identifcation, the turkey ain’t but a couple of feet tall and don’t scream like hell when you pepper them with birdshot. Be careful folks, blaze orange is out during turkey season and shooting someone will ruin your and their day. well thats it for this week so till next time, take a kid with you and be safe. Capt. David
