Headhunter Outdoors Report 5-7-07
May 7th, 2007 by Gillwetter PressHi folks, Capt. David with this weeks outdoors report. Things are continuing to get better as the water warms up. The ocean temp is around 67 degrees and it’s warmer in the sound. The bluefish are everywhere and are biting everything. Hey I wouldn’t go swimming with any jewelry on! The Reds are still a little slow to bite but it will get better. The schools of fish I’ve already located, and the word from some local commercial guys is that it’s going to be a banner year for them. The surf is giving up Blues,Mullet,Black and Red drum along with Blowfish. A few Bonita are still around and some Spanish are showing up. Farther offshore the Kings are around 20 miles and the ledges and rock piles are holding Black bass. The grouper are still out about 20-25 miles. Inside the trout are back in the creeks on the river and some flounder are being caught, they are still a little small but a few are keepers. Like I said the Reds are stirring but they haven’t got wound up good yet. The key word is YET folks. Nothing makes me feel any better than a nice Drum on light tackle in shallow water.
On the hunting side the last day of Turkey season is the 12th. I know that somebody got a nice bird somewhere so please send a photo so we can make you famous for a few minutes.I ain’t got one yet but it ain’t over folks. Then I guess we will just have to go fishing!Remember the new fishing license before you go too. Thats it for this week so be safe and take a kid with you. I hope this wind goes away too. Capt. David
