Headhunter Outdoors Report 5-14-07
May 14th, 2007 by Gillwetter Press | No Comments »Hi folks Capt. David with this weeks outdoors report. I finally found some Reds that were hungry the other day and we caught 4 nice fish. Now I won’t tell you where they were exactly but they were along the waterway down close to the inlet. I’ve also caught a couple of Flounder in the same area. They were small fish so we threw them back. The water temps are near 70 along the waterway and warmer back in the creeks. The Blues are everywhere and hitting about anything you can throw in the water. Some of them are running 2 or 3 lbs. I’ve also seen a lot of Black drum cruising around as well on the flats behind Lea Island. The surf has a lot of Mullet and Blues along with some Drum and Blowfish. The piers are getting the same. Offshore the kings are 15-25 miles out and the Gulf stream is hopping with just about everything biting. I love this time of the year!
On the hunting side now that Turkey Season is out the only thing to do is go fishing till September. I didn’t get a bird this year but maybe next year will be better. Now It’s not from lack of effort folks, Those d#*% birds just don’t know that they are supposed to come to you like they do on TV. Whats even worst is that I’ve seen more Deer during Turkey season than I did during Deer season. I had the priviledge to go up to Bertie county and hunt with some good old boys and learn from guys that know what they are doing on the last day of the season. We had one gobbling like crazy down in the edge of the swamp at first light. Well we got set up in a spot close to him and he flew down on the wrong side of the Beaver pond and we couldn’t get to him. Hey thats the way it goes, sometime you get lucky and most of the time you don’t! Well thats it for this week folks so remember, take a kid fishing and be safe! Capt. David
