Headhunter Outdoors Report 7-9-07

July 9th, 2007 by Gillwetter Press

Hi folks,Capt.David here with this weeks outdoors report. Boy are the fish biting! If you ain’t catchin’ fish now you have got to be doing something wrong. Inshore and offshore everything is hot. The Kings are everywhere from the beach on out. They are catching them from the piers as well. Folks we ain’t talking little Kings either. The Dolphin are anywhere from 5-6 miles on out. I’ve heard a lot are coming from weed lines about 10-15 miles out. This time of the year Mr. Sailfish is in the neighborhood as well. Dallas rock and any of the ledges or rockpiles 8-10 miles out is a good place to start looking. The small boat folks like me should rejoice in the fact that some serious big game fish are in our reach for the next few months. I love the summers here!
Inshore, what can I say. The Redfish are thick as hair on a dogs back and are hitting artificials and live bait like a Mack truck. Any of the creek mouths along the waterway is a good place to start. The key seems to be a lot of water flow and bait in the area. These fish are in 1-2 feet of water folks! If you are fishing in 3 feet of water the Pinfish will tear you up. Throw your finger mullet up next to the grass or shell bar, thats where the big fish are folks. If you don’t believe me, keep doing it your way. The Flounder are up next to the grass as well. Some keeper size fish are being caught but the doormats have been scarce this year. The creeks up along the New river are loaded with Specks, just find a deep hole and QUIETLY float a live shrimp in it. Oh by the way, hang on when you do! Well as you can probably tell I’m excited about things now. So I gotta go fishing folks! Remember to obey the limits and be safe, and take a kid fishing for crying out loud. Thats it for this week folks,Tight lines and screaming drags to everyone! Capt. David
