Headhunter Outdoors Report 8-20-07
August 20th, 2007 by Gillwetter PressHi folks Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. I don’t know how many ways I can say it, the fish are biting! I really hate to sound like a broken record folks. If you want Kings, Look from the beach on out. If you are after Black bass, hit the reefs and ledges. Grouper are your game, try the deep ledges and reefs. A few Tarpon are still around and little blues are everywhere. Some nice Specks are being caught in the surf and from the piers. The river is full of Trout as well. Not to long ago some lucky fellow jerked a huge flounder out of the waterway up towards the Hi-rise bridge. Yeah the big Flounder have moved in too. Redfish are everywhere and are of all different size classes too. Docks and points at creek mouths are good places too try. Folks here in the past few weeks I have been catching some small grouper inside the inlets while Redfishing. I’m still hearing that plenty of Sailfish and Mahi are just offshore as well. On another note, I got to take one of my favorite client’s fishing the other day and we had a blast. We didn’t catch but three Reds, but two of them were 26 and 27 inches respectively. Those fish were in a foot of water folks! This time of the year fish shallow people, thats where the big ones are.
Sept. 1st is rapidly approaching folks and I’m happy as a pig in mud. There’s just sometime about the smell of gun oil and gunpowder that satisfies my mind. Memories of past hunts with family and friends, some of whom are not with us anymore and those who are flood my head. Some folks may not understand but those of you who do feel the same thing on opening day. Euphoria and excitement! Passing on the traditions to the next generation and watching the results.
Okay enough of that Sept. 8th Deer season opens boys and girls. Are you ready? I am. Well thats it for this week folks. Be safe and take a kid fishing or hunting.
Capt. David
