Headhunter Outdoors Report November 12, 2007
November 12th, 2007 by Gillwetter PressHi folks,
Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. The fish are still biting but it’s starting to slow down back in the sound.
The inlets and the surf seem to be the hotspots now. That doesn’t mean you can’t catch them in the sound too. Both inlets are good spots now and fishing up on the sand bar is the place to be. All the bait moving out of the sound through the inlet is what is making it a good spot to fish.
Reds,Black drum,Specks and Gray trout, and the ever-present Bluefish are feeding in the inlet now. Flounder are also biting ! Live finger mullet or cut bait will work. Get you a sand spike and a stool and give it a shot, the worst thing that will happen is you might relax a little.
The Piers are catching the usual mixed bag and the Kings are pulling out farther offshore. There are still a lot of Kings but are out 5-10 miles and farther. Find the bait and find the fish!
On the hunting side Duck season came in without a bang around here. Nobody I talked to saw more than a bird or two. Thats okay because the birds will come, have faith folks.
Now I have to tell you the story behind last weeks picture. Wayland Batson was hunting last Monday evening with his dad locally when that dandy buck steps out into his food plot. Well Wayland was using his late Uncle Wayland’Buddy’Batson’s gun. This 30-30 was handed down through the family to Wayland. His Uncle Buddy took a lot of Deer with that old gun and it’s still doing the job 3 generations later.
To really understand the importance of the story you must understand that Buddy Batson was one of the young men from this area that gave his life in the service of his country in Vietnam. Wayland was named after his Uncle and is carrying the hunting tradition forward. I’ll bet money that old rifle will still be good enough for his son one day too! To all of our veterans, both living and dead, thank you for defending freedom for all of us!
Well thats it for this week folks, Remember to take a kid with you and be safe!
