Headhunter Outdoors Report 4-29-08

April 29th, 2008 by Gillwetter Press

Hi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Warm weather and warmer waters mean the fish are starting to bite. Bluefish are everywhere and unless you want to lose a lot of rigs, use a wire leader! Don’t stick your thumb in a Blue’s mouth or you might not have the ability to hitch-hike anymore. Redfish and black drum are in the surf along with Mullet. Reds are starting to bite along the waterway and around some of the docks. The Trout bite up in the River is still hot if you know where to go! The inlet bars are great places to look for a nice red this time of the year. Lots of dogfish are around too.

Offshore all the fish are biting where they usually are when the weather permits. Folks it’s been rough out there lately. Kings are out 25 miles or so and I’ve heard of some Bonita 10 miles out. Grouper are on the ledges and rockpiles starting about 20 miles and the closer reefs are full of Black bass this time of the year. It shouldn’t be too long till the weather calms and small boaters can get out.

On the hunting side, I went to the mountains this past weekend and saw turkeys, Talked to Turkeys, and still didn’t get one! #%@! I went to a seminar on Turkey hunting a few weeks back and the guy said it averages 4 yrs to get your first bird. I’m beginning to think he’s right. Don’t think I’m going to give up folks. I hate it when people tell me stuff like that. I have to prove them wrong! A friend said it was a character flaw. Well anyway folks thats about it for this week so remember to take a kid with you and be safe!
