Hi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Not much is going on folks and I ain’t going to lie to you. The Yellowfin are in the gulfstream along with Wahoo too. The water is warming up so it won’t be long for the rest of us. Now is the time to make sure all your stuff is ready because when it happens you don’t want to be on the hill! Turkey season is coming in on April 11th till May 9th and youth day is April 4th. We are lucky to have huntable populations of birds in all 100 county’s in North Carolina. Don’t have a good spot then check out the abundance of state run game lands in the area. Holly Shelter, Bladen Lakes and Croatan National Forest all have birds. Be careful because other hunters may be in the area and a hunting accident ain’t a good way to start the season.
This weekend is the 1st Annual Cape Fear Wildlife Expo, downtown at the Coastline Convention Center and the Schwartz Center. Over 100 exhibitors are expected to showcase hunting, fishing and other products and services for outdoorsmen and women. Bring the whole family and check it out! I’ll be there and so should you. Saturday, March 21st from 9:00am-8:00pm and the 22nd from 9:00am-5:00pm. Well thats it for this week so remember to be safe and take a kid with you!

Topsail & Surf City Outdoors-Fishing Report 3-10-09

March 10th, 2009 by Gillwetter Press | Comments Off

Hi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. Nothing is happening with the fishing but it won’t be long. The Bonita should start to show up when the water temp gets to the low 60′s and the stripers should be running in the Roanoke soon. The Cape Fear Shad run will be happening before long as well. Turkey season will be in in about a month and I can’t wait!
Last weekend my friend and I went up to our hunting camp in the mountains to do a little work around the cabin and unwind. We took his son and another friend of mine met us there. We saw loads of deer and some Turkeys too. Nice weather and warm temps made for a great time and the company of good friends can’t be beat. Sitting around the fire, telling lies and jokes. No phones, TV or noise except laughter! Those are the things that make the outdoors lifestyle worthwhile. Whether you hunt and fish or just enjoy hiking and observing nature, there is something very satisfying to one’s soul to be outdoors. Turn off the TV and video games and take the kids and get outdoors! On that note, the 1st Annual Cape Fear Wildlife Expo is going to be at the Coastline Convention Center and the Schwartz Center on Mar.21st and 22 with something to interest everyone. It should be a great event so try to attend! Well thats it for this week so remember to be safe and take a kid with you!
