Topsail & Surf City Outdoors-Fishing Report 5-12-09
May 12th, 2009 by Gillwetter PressHi folks, Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. The fish are biting folks! Red and Black drum are in the surf and sound,Mullet and spanish are in the surf and being caught off the piers too. The kings are moving in close to the beach and should be available to the pier guys if they already haven’t got there. Loads of Bluefish are aroundand some of them are big. Folks I caught some in the waterway this past weekend that were 8 pounders plus! That’s a handful on a light rod. The flounder should be moving in and I’ve heard of some keepers being caught. Look around the inlets, jigs or live bait will hook a big flatfish this time of the year. If you are looking for live bait, the backs of the creeks are full of 3-4 inch Menhaden and a castnet will fill a livewell in a couple of throws.
Offshore the bottom fishing is good on the ledges and reefs. Grouper,Snapper,Beeliners and Black bass are hot. I haven’t heard much about the gulfstream lately because the weather has been so rough. Folks, now is the time to hit the pier, beach or the boat and catch some fish. Well thats about it for this week so be safe and take a kid with you when you go out!
