Topsail & Surf City Outdoors-Fishing Report 9-21-09

September 21st, 2009 by Gillwetter Press

Hi folks,Capt. David here with this weeks outdoors report. I must apoligize to all my readers for not writing my column for the last couple of weeks, but between fishing and hunting a ain’t had time to sleep lately! The fish are biting everywhere you can fish.

The surf and piers are catching everything from Kings and Spanish to Blues and Pompano. Spots,Flounder,Sheepshead,Red and Black Drum are all possible now! Folks,if it’s swimmin’,it’s bitin’!

Inshore, the Flounder bite is hot as well as the Redfish. Black drum are scattered around as well. Just about any creek mouth or Oyster bar is a good spot to start looking. The bays are full of hungry Reds that will slam a topwater bait plumb out of the water. All I can say is that if you can’t catch a fish now, take up golf. I hear it’s a wonderful game. I’ll stick with fishin’!

Offshore the Kings are from the beach on out and the Spanish are all along the beach. Black bass and snapper, along with Grouper are on the ledges and reefs. Lots of nice Flounder are being caught around the artificial reefs just off the beach and the Mahi are still 10-15 miles out. Sailfish are still around in the 10-15 mile range and most people are catching them while fishing for Kings.

On the hunting side, bow season for deer came in on the 12th and I ain’t been able to go but once due to charters. I saw a couple but couldn’t get a shot,Oh well there is always the next time! Even a blind hog will find an acorn once in a while. Dove season is in as well. Please check your regulation guide before you go hunting and don’t take my word for it all the time. I have been wrong once or twice in my life and my memory ain’t as good as it used to be. Remember to be safe in the woods as well as on the water because it don’t take but a second to get in a bad way. Be safe, not sorry!

Well thats about it for this week and I promise I will do better in the coming weeks. Be safe and take a kid with you when you go out in the great outdoors!
