Fishing Report 6-25-2011 through 6-27-2011
June 28th, 2011 by Gillwetter PressI had Gustavo and Roberto return to NC from Brazil for 4 days of fishing. The weather man was not kind and we canceled the 1st day. Day #2 we took our time in 4 foot seas and started around 20 miles. We had AJs on live bait all day until late in the afternoon when they shutdown. The guys kept count ( I was too busy unhooking fish) and we landed 50 fish between 25 and 50 lbs. Day #3 headed off shore to some deep wrecks in 110 feet. No action at the 1st wreck and moved out to 120 feet. Finally started getting some fish but small AJs. Roberto landed a nice 15 lb king. Decided to try a inshore a few miles and finally the wind let off and the ocean went flat. After a couple of drifts we decided to through a popper and it didn’t take long when it hit the water 100 AJs followed it to the boat and it was on for 4 hours. To be honest it was impossible to keep track on how many fish we landed but 1 drift was 1 1/2 miles with non stop action. The guys got so tried of fighting fish we took the hooks off the poppers just to watch them hit the plug on top. Sorry I didn’t get a lot of good photos for obvious reasons. The last day was a short day since the guys had a late afternoon flight. Caught plenty of fish on live bait but the ocean was too rough for poppers. Also landed a couple nice Gags on live bait. The high light was a 8 foot Hammerhead shark eating a 30 lb AJ. The was a site to see. The guys took some great videos and I hope to see them in a couple weeks once they get home and post them on U-tube.
