Seagull Bait and Tackle Fishing Report

Big fish! That’s this weeks report. Like I said last week, there is not yet the large quantity we would like to see, but the size is great! Pompano at three plus pounds have been a regular visitor of the shop recently and there has been no shortage of two-pound catches. Black Drum have been another invader of the surf and they also have been bigger than usual. Some up to seven and a half pounds. Blue Fish are running in the two to three pound range and all are feeding regularly on shrimp and mullet. Fishing is great right now and getting better as the water temperatures rise. Flounder should really start improving fast and I have heard of and seen plenty of small ones. I’m just waiting to see that first big one. Off the piers, I hear Kure Beach Pier had its first run of Spanish Mackerel on Monday. These warm southwest winds will push water temps up fast! Offshore, bottom fishing is till real good.
