Big Red And White Bucktails And Mann Stretch 25’s

December 14th, 2005 by Gillwetter Press | Comments Off

Not much has changed since last week. People are still catching a few Whiting from the Kure Beach Pier. They are also catching some Blowfish and an occasional Black Drum. In the surf, you might still catch a few Whiting but by far your best bet is Speckled Trout up and down the beachfront. Use mirror lures and grubs for bait. If you want to put the boat in the water one more time, then you’re going to need to get up in the waterway around the docks and inlet. That’s where most of the Trout and Drum are feeding. Charles Ferguson caught some nice Stripped Bass up the river. One was as big as fifteen pounds. Stripped Bass have made a slow but steady come back in the past few years. Big Red and White Bucktails and Mann Stretch 25′s are about the best bait. Though I have heard of Stripers being taken on plain old dead shrimp. If you are looking for live bait, look hard because I hear there are still a few baits up the river. Having trouble with what to buy your favorite fisher-person? Try a gift certificate. It’s a great stocking stuffer for anyone. Keep fishin and releasin… Steve and Karen Labanec Seagull Bait and Tackle 910-458-7135

Carolina Beach Boardwalk To Kure Beach Pier

December 7th, 2005 by Gillwetter Press | Comments Off

The season is winding down but there is still plenty of time to catch a few fish. The surf is still producing some nice fish. Whiting are still feeding on shrimp from just south of the Carolina Beach Boardwalk down to the Kure Beach Pier. People are also catching some Puppy Drum up and down the beach along with Speckled Trout. Mike Robertson – owner of the Kure Beach Pier – has been really nice about leaving the pier open again this winter and they’re catching lots of Whiting from the end of the pier. Please keep the pier clean and remember, Mike’s doing us a great favor by leaving the gate open so please do not abuse the privilege. Offshore, the warm water is about twenty-miles out and that’s where you will find plenty of top water fish. Small Snake Kings and Dolphin can be caught on the bottom on some of the better ledges. You will find some decent Grouper and grunts. Up the river, we are still hearing of a Striper of two and big bucktails and stretch 25′s are the bait of choice. So when you’re done with all that holiday stuff, take some time for yourself and go fishing! Keep fishin and releasin… Steve and Karen Labanec Seagull Bait and Tackle
