Speckled Trout Are All Over The Carolina Beach Inlet

November 23rd, 2005 by Gillwetter Press | Comments Off

Is it too cold for you? Well, it is not too cold for fishing; not yet anyway. This past week those that made it out offshore before the big blow did real good on bottom fishing. Lots of Grouper were caught in the teens. Closer to the beach some big Grey Trout were caught on and around High Rock and most of the other onshore wrecks and reefs. If you would rather fish the piers, they’re both still catching lots of Whiting and Black Drum with the occasional small schools of Spots. The surf is still producing and has not slowed down much. There are still plenty of Blue Fish in the one to three pound range. Whiting are also still feeding on sand fleas and shrimp. Black Drum have also moved in to the beach. There have been many caught up around the inlet. Speaking of the inlet. Speckled Trout are all over the inlet. No trophies, but plenty of good eating fish. Down the river, the Whiting are still hanging around the entrance to Bald Head Island and Croakers are plentiful. Maybe you will even catch one of those big Red Drum still lumbering around feeding on crabs and a stray mullet minnow. It?s almost Striper time. We have heard of a couple up by the power lines on stretch 25?s. Keep fishin and releasin… Steve and Karen Labanec Seagull Bait and Tackle

Grouper Time Is Here!

November 16th, 2005 by Gillwetter Press | Comments Off

Grouper time is here! Yes sir, if you got the time, there are plenty of Grouper to be caught. This beautiful fall weather is allowing many the chance to reel in some big ones. The average Grouper has been around the sixteen-pound weight. Large Time Charters had a great Wahoo this week at almost sixty-five pounds along with some real nice Grouper. On all the inshore reefs and wrecks, the Grey Trout have moved in along with some Flounder heading out for winter. The best baits are string-silvers and cut bait and it’s not hard at all to catch your limit. In the surf, we are still seeing lots of Pompano and Whiting. Some of the Whiting have been weighed in at over two pounds. Most of the fish being caught in the surf have been on a rising tide. Black Drum are starting to show up with catches of up to six pounds. Both piers are still catching some Spots especially when the wind goes east. Both are also catching lots of Whiting and a few Black Drum. Down the river there are plenty of Whiting, Grey Trout and Spots. Fishing could not be better and as long as the weather holds the fish will continue to bite. Keep fishin and releasin… Steve and Karen Labanec Seagull Bait and Tackle
